What a kitchen fitter can help with
- Removing and disposing of the old kitchen
- Fitting units, doors, handles and worktops
- Installing integrated appliances, sinks and taps
- Coordinating plastering, tiling and flooring
- Arranging electrical and gas work by registered people
When do you need one?
- You have bought a kitchen and need it installed
- You want a full kitchen refit managed for you
- You are extending and need the kitchen fitted as part of the project
Checks before you hire
- Gas work (such as connecting a gas hob) must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Check the register online.
- New electrical circuits and many kitchen electrical jobs in England and Wales must meet Part P of the Building Regulations; use an electrician registered with a competent person scheme.
- Ask what is included: removal, plumbing, electrics, tiling, worktop cutting and waste.
- Look at photos of recent kitchens the fitter has installed.
What affects the cost?
Prices vary from job to job. The main factors are:
- Number of units and layout changes
- Worktop material (laminate, wood, quartz, stone)
- Moving plumbing, gas or electrics
- Whether plastering, tiling and flooring are included
- Removal of the old kitchen
Every job is different, so the only reliable way to know the price for your home is to get at least three written, itemised quotes for the same scope of work and compare them like for like.
